The success of Testersuite is largely due to the ease with which the user is guided through the various testing phases. For this reason, we regularly ask our customers for input, such as at the Testersuite user meeting late last year, so that we can make testing even easier. This input is included in the roadmap for future releases. A whole new Testersuite version will even be released on September 18, 2015: Testersuite 4.0.
In addition to many new features, Testersuite will be even more user-friendly for our end users. In the run-up to this major release, in this article we highlight some of the new features and improvements you can expect.
Selecting columns in list screens
It will be possible for end users to set which columns should be shown in list screens. Each list window will have a settings button to open the light-box for setting columns:
Using drag-and-drop, it is easy to set which columns should be visible and which should not. It is also possible to indicate the order in which the columns should be shown and what the standard sorting of the list screen should be.
The column selection obviously works for all standard fields, but also for the fields that your Testersuite administrator adds in customization. Suppose a category field is added to defects to indicate whether it is a bug, a wish or a user error. Then in the defects list screen, users can select this field as a column so that filtering and/or sorting by category is possible.
Change order of test steps and test cases with drag-and-drop
For changing the order of test steps, drag-and-drop functionality is going to be available in Testersuite 4.0. This will allow test steps in a test case to be placed in the desired order very quickly.
The same applies to the order of test cases in a test scenario.
New module: Products & Requirements
A new module will be available for managing (test) products* and requirements. In addition to managing products and requirements in the tree, which is already possible in the current Testersuite version, list screens have been added in Testersuite 4.0 for working with products and requirements. This makes it possible to support the complete requirement management process.
In the Products & Requirements module, users can easily define requirements, assign them to developers and monitor progress. For the development and testing of the requirements, the developer, priority and status are defined, among other things. Here's an example:
A tester goes to work testing the 'Must have' requirements developed by developer 'Koen van Zanten'. He opens the list of requirements and filters on the columns Priority (Must have), Developer (Koen van Zanten) and Status (Ready for test). Within the result shown, the tester can now directly click through to the details of the requirements, create and execute test cases and register test defects .
The defects are clearly displayed in Testersuite 4.0 in a tab near the products and requirements in the tree.
* In Testersuite 4.0, the term Systems is replaced by the term Products. The Products are the systems and/or processes being tested in a test cycle.
Many improvements
Testersuite 4.0 contains very many minor and major improvements, both visually and deep under the hood. Much of this comes from requests from customers who work a lot with Testersuite .
Here are six eye-catching improvements:
- The 'Home' screen in the new version shows an overview of all active test cycles that the user is involved in. This makes it possible to see at a glance the current statuses and tasks across several test cycles. These are displayed in the form of so-called 'tiles'.
- Already when a test case is being developed, it becomes possible to indicate who should carry out the test. This contributes to the rapid scheduling of tests after the specifications have been finalised.
- It is possible to work with several testers at the same time in the same test run. Ideal for carrying out small re-tests or viewing the results of tests already carried out.
- Within one test cycle it was already possible to plan and execute different test types. The division of test types has been further implemented within, among others, test design.
- The search function has been expanded and improved. This makes it even easier to find a test case, defect or other entities.
- Attachments can be added using a drag-and-drop function.
At the Testersuite User Meeting in September, many of these improvements will be demonstrated. It is still possible to register for this until Friday, August 28. Registration can be done through your Testersuite Administrator.
